Nikki and Matt are awesome. Now that you know that, it makes sharing their engagement session even better. These two are almost hard to describe because they’re just so clearly made for each other. Anytime we would start making jokes or try and get them to laugh, Matt instantly took over and said something silly and Nikki broke into adorable laughter almost immediately. When they decided to start their engagement session in downtown Willoughby since it’s sentimental to them seeing that they live close by, I was all for it! I haven’t been to the area in a while but it’s one of those places that is just screaming to have a cute couple like these two wander around for photos!
Having a photographer in your face for the first time can be pretty awkward, we know that much, but these two warmed up SO quickly it was awesome! It’s like they took a moment, realized that this was about them, and truly just took it on as a fun outing for them as a couple… while being tailed by two photographers. (: I love this next photo of these two!
And what would an engagement session in downtown Willoughby be without randomly opening a gate to an alleyway and telling Nikki and Matt, “hey guys, it’s okay, just go on in there!” haha!
Oh and since the whole focus was these two and downtown Willoughby itself, why not take a photo in the middle of the road to showcase everything at once? I mean, we only made one car wait, and it was only a few seconds… worth it!
& I love this detail shot I grabbed right before we headed on to our next location. Something about Matt’s boots and Nikki’s dainty heels just made my day and I wanted to capture that in a photo. There are so many times that photos are very clearly about the couple, but little details like this, while not their faces, help craft the memory and feeling of the entire shoot!
From there, we were on to Mayfield Village and a place I’ve been wanting to shoot a session for as long as I’ve been going there. I was beyond excited that these two were up for this location because it had everything that a fall engagement session should have: some colorful trees, a couple wooden bridges, and willow trees (AKA my favorite trees of all time!).
This photo, where I kinda shoved these two INTO a willow tree, is my favorite from the whole session. I love love love it.
We then wandered around the park some more as the sun set and got some great images of these two! I swear, you would never know that they haven’t had their photos taken like this before, they were so natural and so comfortable, it really made our job easy!
Now, for a fun surprise, at the end of our session Matt busted out some of his gear for some additional photos, to pay homage to the fact that he’s a firefighter! I’m sorry, how adorable is the fact that he decided to put his jacket on Nikki!?
I absolutely love how these turned out and it’s a perfect incorporation into their engagement session. Plus, I found out we’re going to the station on their wedding day (YAY!!) so this ties everything together in the form of photos. You two, honestly, you’re amazing. We could not be more excited that we get to document your wedding next year and are already counting down the days! Xoxo!
